Did you know a little brown bat can eat up to 600 mosquitoes in one hour? Some bats ability to eat up to 50% of their body weight in insects each night helps to decrease use of agricultural pesticides and mosquito-borne illnesses. 40% of American bat species are threatened or endangered, even though bats play an important ecological role. Some bats are also fantastic polinators and contribute to reforestation efforts by dispersing fruit seeds throughout their habitat via their nutrient-dense droppings. Putting up a bat house helps give these fuzzy little guys a home to work their environmental magic and decrease the amount of insects bugging you outside!
